“Start Paying Them Better and This Won’t Happen”: Another Bodybuilder Backing Out Just Days Ahead of Mr. Olympia Draws Uncomfortable Questions From Fans

Bodybuilding‘s most prestigious and celebrated event 2023 Mr. Olympia is a couple of days away, and athletes are backing out before the contest, making a stir in the sports community. Angela Borges has been competing for over ten years, took part in 70 championships, and won around 60 competitions including three World Championships, 7 Arnold Classic titles, four Brazilian Championships, and five South American Championships.

Some athletes, like Big Ramy, and Brett Wilkin withdrew their names from the competition. And now Brazilian IFBB Elite Pro bodybuilder in the Wellness category announced her withdrawal just two weeks ahead.

Since her childhood, the fitness world intrigued her. After completing schooling, she joined the gym and found her calling in bodybuilding. Borges earned her pro card at Jim Manion’s IFBB Pro League Pittsburg Pro event. Borges was the first to qualify for the 2021 Olympia however, came in second place at the 2021 Mr. Olympia contest. Because of her astonishing physique, fitness, and balance, many thought she might win the 2022 Wellness International title. Earlier this year at the Arnold Classic, she came second in the division.

Borges has earned the respect of fans from all over the world, and because of her incredible talent, they were excited to see her in the contest. In an unexpected turn of events, she took to her Instagram and announced she won’t be performing this year.” YES, I will be at Mr Olympia, NOT competing but supporting the team @maxtitaniumsuplementos and all the athletes in Brazil,” said IFBB Pro. This news devastated her fans.

A fitness page BisandTris on IG shared a post mentioning, “Brazil’s Wellness Contender Angela Borges Announces her decision to not compete at the 2023 Mr. Olympia. At the moment, she’s trying to devote herself to her clients and her businesses, says Angela,” they wrote to their caption. However, it disheartened the netizens, and they began speculating about the situation, wondering why someone so talented and who won several competitions would act out now.

Fans are wondering the reason for her withdrawal

Some of them came up with an answer and wrote in the IG post, “Start paying them better and this won’t happen.” Another added, “At this point, competitors are going to keep dropping because the federations are turning this into a hobby sport. There’s more money in pickleball tournaments than bodybuilding.” One user said, “Wonder what the real reason is? Dropping the biggest show of the year that you having been prepping for months on end a few weeks out for business and clients…yeah, right?”

While others were contemplating, some fans supported her decision. They said, “This is a smart choice. We can’t all compete forever. She is making a smart decision by focusing on her life outside of competition.” Other fans were disappointed and said, “Bummer, she is one of my all-time favs, and she always brings an intimidating and competitive package.”
